CSPD Chief of Police retires after 35 years

Scott McCollum has been with the College Station Police Department for 35 years.

After three decades with the College Station Police Department, Chief of Police Scott McCollum is retiring.

When chief McCollum first came to Aggieland, he was on the path to be a veterinarian, until different plans drew him to a new career.

“After one week serving as a police officer, I was amazed that I was getting paid to do something that I truly loved, which was interacting with the community and the rest is history," said CSPD Chief of Police Scott McCollum.

With many achievements on his belt, chief says his greatest highlight is the new CSPD facility, which has been in the works for six years.

“It’s truly been a collaborative effort to come together to identify our needs and then to ultimately develop a facility that we can not only be proud of but will serve the community for many generations to come," said chief McCollum.

During his time with college station PD, his involvements include and are not limited to the SWAT Team, Honor Guard, Texas Police Chief’s Association, and International Association of Chief’s of Police.

McCollum said he stuck around for a while in College Station because of the potential and vision he saw for the city.

“I think we have redefined our culture and we have worked hard to recognize that every individual here has value and we need to treat everyone with dignity and respect. Internally or externally. I think we’ve had to recalibrate our culture and become a completely different department. One thing I've learned through my many years is that life is all about relationships, and we've developed some very deep and meaningful relationships here in the department and out in this community and so those are hard to walk away from," said McCollum.

McCollum is going on to be the deputy division director for the Institute of Law Enforcement and Protective Services Excellence at the TEEX campus in Rellis.
