'Just start somewhere:' Local crossfit gym hoping to help people keep their fitness goals for the New Year

With crossfit, ..."people can be fit and healthy, while finding social connections".

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — As people make their way into Wellborn Crossfit on Wedneday, coaches are getting ready for their first workout of 2020.

On the agenda for the New Year's Day workout are sand bag carries, squats and everyone's favorite, running.

The crossfit gym has been open for three years. General manager and head coach, Kasie Tedrick has been involved in the exercise for nine years. She said she has always been active, but started crossfit because she was looking to push herself.

"Crossfit was that, 'Here is your fitness, here is the definition of broad general inclusiveness. Being able to do anything and everything,'" said Tedrick.

Throughout Tedrick's involvement, she's watched the exercise attract more people, something she does not think will slow down anytime soon.

"It is a means that people can be fit and healthy, while finding social connections," Tedrick said.

Wednesday being the start of the new year, Tedrick said the gym will see an increase in attendees through the month of January.

Trying a new workout can be rough or scary for most. Tedrick said a way Wellborn Crossfit tries to keep people coming back throughout the year is by having a support system.

"We're going to meet you where you're at and take you where you want to go," Tedrick said.

It is not only the coaches that have your back, but it is the friends you make while at the gym too.

"Those friends hold you accountable by texting you when you don't show up," Tedrick said. "They suffer with you, they struggle with you, they celebrate with you."

For Tedrick, this advice not only applies for crossfit, but to anyone looking to start working out in any physical setting.

"Just start somewhere," Tedrick said, "Maybe one day you'll have a whole different lifestyle that you love."
