Local GOP Congressman distances from Pres. Trump, says he knows Russia meddled in election

In a tweet, authored Monday afternoon, Rep. Flores said he's "personally reviewed" intelligence agencies' and House Intelligence Committee reports related to Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

BRYAN, Texas – Local republican congressman Bill Flores (TX-17) distanced himself from President Trump, Monday, after Mr. Trump accepted Russian president Vladimir Putin’s assurances that the Kremlin did not attempt to disrupt the 2016 election.

In a tweet, Rep. Flores said he’s “personally reviewed” intelligence agencies’ and House Intelligence Committee reports related to Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

“I trust the hard work of these groups, which have proven that Russia did in fact meddle in our 2016 elections,” Flores added.

In an joint news conference, Monday afternoon, during a bilateral summit in Helsinki, President Trump made the unprecedented move of siding with Mr. Putin’s version of events and criticizing the US intelligence community.

“They said they think it’s Russian,” said the president. “I have President Putin and he just said it’s not Russia,” the President Trump added shortly after Putin denied involvement in the 2016 election hacking.

Flores is not far from his republican House colleagues on this. Shortly after President Trump's remarks, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) confirmed Russian intelligence operatives sought to undermine the US election.

“There is no question that Russian interfered in our election and continued to undermine democracy here and around the world,” Ryan said.
