Multiple students sent to hospital after school bus crash in College Station

Students from four different schools were on the bus when it crashed.

Nine students were transported to the hospital after their school bus collided with a pickup truck around 4:36 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Rio Grande Boulevard and Harvey Mitchell Parkway in College Station.

College Station Fire Department Division Chief Greg Rodgers said the students' injuries were not critical. The pickup truck driver refused medical attention at the scene, he added.

There were a total of 37 students and one driver on the bus when the crash happened. They attended four different local schools: Pecan Trail Intermediate School, Greens Prairie Elementary School, College Station Middle School and College Station High School.

Rodgers said Eastbound Harvey Mitchell Parkway was temporarily closed from Welsh Avenue to Southwood Drive, as a result of the crash. But, it has since reopened.

Authorities could not immediately confirm what caused the collision.
