Offensive Player of the Week: Shelton Eppler, Northwestern State – Jr. – Quarterback – Navasota, Texas

The junior quarterback from Navasota cemented himself in Northwestern State history, smashing the single-game record for passing yards (474 yards, a new mark by 93 yards), touchdowns (six) and total offense (469 yards, topping Bobby Hebert’s 465 in 1981).

Eppler also tied the Demon mark for points responsible for with 36 in the highest-scoring Southland game in school history. He managed a Demon offense that remained turnover-free through three games.

With the game tied at 35 early in the fourth quarter, Eppler produced back-to-back touchdowns on a 70-yard pass to Jazz Ferguson and an eight-play, 68-yard march on the following series to take the 14 point advantage.
