Only on KAGS: Texas Task Force One and National Guard search and rescue demo

Regional, state, and federal agencies gathered in Galveston to prepare for natural disasters.

GALVESTON, Texas — Members of Texas Task Force One and the National Guard staged search and rescue missions along the gulf coast earlier today.

The focus of these missions are to rescue survivors, but they also serve as an exercise for agencies at the regional, state, and federal level to work together and prepare for times of crisis.

The training focused mainly on water rescues; from flood waters to rooftop and car rescues.

The rescue scenarios performed come from real life situations, simulating past disasters like hurricane Harvey.

This search and rescue training happens annually, and the gulf coast was chosen due to the high hurricane activity, allowing the members to have real time practice for the future.
