Park West residents frustrated with parking situation

Residents at Park West apartments in College Station are claiming there are not enough parking spots for residents. Management says there is a "surplus" of parking.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Residents at Park West apartments say they are frustrated.

Many residents are claiming there are not enough parking spots for residents.

"If I had to describe the parking situation in one word, it would be atrocious," resident Sydney Stuart said.

Brooke Kanning added she is afraid to leave her apartment in fear of not having a spot when she comes back.

"I try not to leave my apartment," she said.

One resident wanted to have his voice heard by management -- Dakota Busby. He started a petition on Change.org

"I wanted to voice my opinion about it and make sure things were happening to remedy the situation," Busby said.

In the petition, Busby says management has let the parking situation get out of control. And in the few weeks the petition has been circulating, over 350 people agree. To date, the petition has 354 signatures.

"I think it is fairly obvious, you can look outside at nighttime and see there isn't an open parking spot to be found," he said.

In a statement to KAGS, Park West management said there are 2,809 parking spaces available to residents. And as of now, 2,698 total permits have been issued for the garage and surface parking.

"So the reality is that we currently should have a surplus of over 100 parking spots for our residents' use," they wrote.

Park West also said they are working on the issue. In the meantime, they have began to allow residents to park in visitor parking and have a towing service on call 24/7. Vehicles without parking stickers will be towed at the owner's expense.
