TAMU Agriculture and Life Sciences celebrates National Agriculture Day

The "A" in Texas A&M stands for one thing - agriculture. Kacey Bowen met with those at one of the most well-known agriculture schools across the country to see how they are celebrating.

Agriculture brings in 100 billion dollars for the Texas economy, it gives one in seven Texans a job, and it has a day-to-day contribution many overlook.

"Without agriculture, none of us would have food to eat or clothes to wear everyday," said Dr. Susan Ballabina, deputy vice chancellor for Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M.

Ballabina said while March 20th is a day that recognizes and celebrates agriculture, to her it is just another day.

"Here at Texas A&M, everyday is National Agriculture Day," she said.

Ballabina said Texas A&M is the premiere organization in agriculture to make a difference.

"We have the largest College of Ag and Life Sciences in the country," she said.

And to help consumers learn and understand agriculture, Ballabina said they are starting a new initiative - Path to the Plate.

"The initiative helps consumers understand through reliable information how food is grown, where it comes from, and how their choices about food affect their health," she said.
