COLLEGE STATION - Two campuses in Bryan's school district failed to meet state standards under a new letter grade accountability system. Every scored school in the College Station Independent School District received a passing score.

On Wednesday, the Texas Education Agency released A-F accountability rankings for school districts across the state using a new grading system.

The A-F grading system ranks schools based on three broad categories; student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps.

The Student Achievement category measures how well students perform on STAAR tests and college and career readiness measures along with graduation rates.

School Progress measures how many students improved on the STAAR compared to the previous year and how this figure compares with similar schools and districts.

Closing the Gaps measures how well students performed based on their race, income level and special education status.

Once a district receives scores in all three categories, an overall grade is calculated: 70 percent of the score is based on the student achievement and school progress categories, with only the better score counting toward the overall grade. The closing the gap category makes up the other 30 percent of the overall score.

College Station Independent School District earned a B with an overall score of 89. Every school in the district received a passing grade, with College Station Middle School receiving a 92, the highest score in the district, and College Hills Elementary School receiving a score of 70, the lowest score in the district.

The district received an A in the student achievement category, a B in the sschool progress category and a B in the closing the gaps category.

Bryan Independent School District earned a C with an overall score of 74. Bryan's school district had two failing schools; Mitchell Elementary School and Mary Branch Elementary School failed to meet state standards. Bryan Collegiate High School received the highest score in the district with a score of 97 while Mary Branch Elementary School received the lowest score in the district with a score of 50.

Bryan's school district received a D in the student achievement category, a C in the school progress category and a C in the closing the gaps category.

Individual campuses will receive official letter grades beginning in August 2019.

The Texas Education Agency released A through F accountability rankings for school districts and 0 to 100 rankings for campuses.
