Victim identified from vehicle fire in Walker County

The Walker County Sheriff's Department is investigating a deceased body found after a vehicle fire Saturday in Walker County.

UPDATE: The victim inside the vehicle has been identified as of April 17th.

The man who was found in a burning vehicle fire in late March has been identified as Juan Carlos Gomez Cedillos, according to the Walker County Sheriff's Department.

The 40-year-old victim was from Houston.

The sheriff's department says the investigation is still ongoing and could not provide further comments.

HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS -- A 911 call led officials to FM 2989 early Saturday morning.

At 6:17 a.m., a 911 call informed dispatch of suspected vehicle fire in the 100 block of FM 2989, according to a press release from the Walker County Sheriff's Department.

The Huntsville Fire Department responded and as they distinguished the fire, they discovered a deceased body in the vehicle.

"The accident is not considered to be an accident, but an intentional act," the sheriff's department wrote in the press release.

The victim has been unable to be identified, but officials believe he was a White or Hispanic male, 5'10-6'1 feet tall, and approximately 20-30 years old.

The sheriff's department is still gathering information and could not comment on the ongoing investigation.
