BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — Have you received a jury summons during the Shelter-in-Place order? Did you know that you still have to respond to it?
Brazos County District Clerk Gabriel Garcia wants to make sure all residents know they are still required to respond to a jury summons during the shelter in place orders.
Without those responses, trials that need to start immediately following the shelter in place may not have enough jurors to proceed.
“I have about eight panels that have requested 80 to 90 people that do not have one person assigned to that panel, because we are not getting a good response,” said Garcia. “I am worried I won’t be able to get enough people in those panels for a trial if we don’t start receiving a higher response rate.”
All Brazos County residents who have received an official jury summons are still required to respond to that summons.
The District Clerk’s office is asking that all responses be handled online or through the mail. Anyone without an exemption or disqualification will be assigned a date in the months of May or June. The deadline for the jury summons letter recipients dated for April 8th has been extended to April 10th
