TEES gives dog food production demonstration

The process involves extrusion, which basically describes a process that uses heat and pressure to make dry kibble and treats.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Food manufacturers from across the area are learning about producing pet food and treats at TEES' short course on Extruded Pet Foods and Treats.

Participants listen to lectures from 8 a.m. to about 3:30 p.m., then they are taken to physical demonstrations on the Rellis campus to incorporate those lessons.

Tuesday's lesson involved extrusion, which basically describes a process that uses heat and pressure to make dry kibble and treats.

While that process can be interesting to watch, these courses aren’t just for the curious.

“If they can take some of their extra ingredients that they’re not using in human food, instead of becoming waste, they can actually put it toward another product. So there’s less losses,” said Chris Mack, a Senior Research Associate.

Even though college students don’t usually take these types of courses, Mack says, if they contact TEES directly, they can take the courses for a discounted price.
