COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M senior Chandler Phillips was chosen to represent the United States at the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup on Wednesday as both the International and United States teams were announced at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club & Lodge. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played June 7-9 at The Alotian Club.

Phillips is the first American to be selected to the Palmer Cup three times, representing the United States each of the last two years. He got out to a record-setting start to his final season with the Aggies after an impressive junior outing that saw him earn All-America First Team honors. The Huntsville, Texas native won the 2019 Arizona Intercollegiate, A&M's first event of the season. He is the first Aggie to win the event, shooting a school record 19-under through two days of play. He previously held two of the top three 54-hole program records, setting a mark each of the last two seasons.  A three-time All-SEC honoree, Phillips' season-opening win upped his program-best career tournament wins total to seven. For the second time in his career, Phillips was named to the Hogan Award Watch List earlier this season.

Texas A&M sophomore Amber Park earned SEC Women’s Golfer of the Week and Aggie Brooke Tyree earned SEC Women’s Golf Freshman of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Park and Tyree each won matches for the Aggies in a 5-2 dual-match victory over Texas State Saturday at Miramont Country Club.

Park defeated the Bobcats’ Anne-Charlotte Mora 2 Up, in the day’s most compelling match. Park found herself 4 Down after 10 holes, then eagled the par-4 11th to start her comeback, winning six of the last eight holes. This is Park’s first career SEC Golfer of the Week honor after earning a freshman of the week honor last season.

Tyree earned the clinching point for A&M, defeating the Bobcats’ Sasiskarn Somboonsup 3&2. With Tyree 2 Up on the 16th hole, she made an uphill chip from 40 feet away for birdie, clinching the match after an attempt by Somboonsup to hole out a chip herself. It is Tyree’s first SEC Freshman of the Week honor, and she is the fourth Texas A&M golfer to win the award.

The Aggies return to action March 12-13 at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kane’ohe, Hawai’i.
