Aggies Fall in Series Opener Against No. 4 Alabama

COLLEGE STATION, Texas —  Texas A&M Softball dropped the series opener against No. 4 Alabama, 13-3, in six innings Friday evening at Davis Diamond.

Alabama (32-0, 4-0 SEC) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first before adding two in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth.

The Maroon & White (17-12, 1-6 SEC) plated a run in three of the six frames but the Crimson Tides put up a five-spot in the sixth inning to secure the victory.

 

Texas A&M’s offense was led by Dani Elder, who accounted for two of the Aggies’ six hits and belted the first home run of her career. Kelbi Fortenberry also recorded two hits while Blake-Ann Fritsch and Kayla Garcia each had one.

 

Kayla Poynter was saddled with the loss after giving up five hits, six runs and three walks in 2.1 innings. Hannah Mayo threw 3.2 innings in relief, allowing seven hits, seven runs and five walks.

 

Montana Fouts earned the win after throwing five innings, giving up three hits, two runs four walks and striking out 10. Courtney Gettins threw one inning and allowed three hits and a run.
