Devin Dixon claims 800m gold in NACAC U23 Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M’s Devin Dixon won the 800m title at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) U23 Championships with a time of 1:47.69 while Syaira Richardson placed fourth in the 400m final.

 

Dixon claimed the 800m race by nearly two seconds over U.S. teammate Isaiah Jewett of USC (1:49.43) and Jamaica’s Jauavney James (1:49.52).

 

Richardson posted a time of 53.04 for fourth in the 400m final after running 53.30 in the semifinal. Canada’s Kyra Constantine won the 400m in 51.51 over Jamaica’s Roneisha McGregor (51.70) while Chloe Abbott of the United States finished third in 51.87.

 

This coming week Aggie Tyra Gittens will compete in the World University Games for Trinidad and Tobago with track and field action taking place from July 8-13 in Napoli, Italy.

 

Gittens is scheduled to compete in the high jump and long jump. She established career best marks in both events this season, clearing 6-1 ½ (1.87) twice in the high jump and reaching a distance of 21-5 ¼ (6.53) in the long jump.
