Can Rockdale End the Brazos Valley's State Title Game Drought in 2020?

The Eagle's high school beat writer Jeff Perkins says if any team can this season, it's the Tigers

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — There's no doubt about the fact Brazos Valley high school football teams can compete on the highest level, but the area's local schools have come up just a bit short in the playoffs recently.

Both College Station and Rockdale won State Championships in 2017, but since then, no local team has even reached the State Championship game.

Bremond came the closest in 2019 before getting knocked out in the Regional Finals by Falls City.

Several area teams start the 2020 season ranked in Dave Campbell's Football Texas Top 10, but The Eagle's high school beat writer Jeff Perkins thinks one team stands out above the rest in terms of its potential to win it all.

"Give me Rockdale," Perkins says. "Didn't win district last year, finished third, but Jace Robinson is back, and so is Cam'ron Valdez. These guys have been together for two years, going on three, and I think they're going to be really excellent again this year."

The Tigers will be lead this season by first year head coach Jacob Campsey. Long time Tigers coach Jeff Miller accepted the head coaching job at Cy-Fair High School earlier this summer.

The Tigers start the season ranked 7th in class 3A DI.
