Gray’s Bearkats are coming off a 22-8 season in 2018, finishing third in the Southland Conference with a 13-3 record. They return eight players off of that squad, including six who played significant time in that 2018 campaign.

The entirety of the Kats’ non-conference schedule will come in the first four weekends of the year when they take part in four tournaments, including opening up the year at home with the 42nd Annual SHSU Invitational on August 30-31.

The Kats will kick off the season on Friday, August 30 against Louisiana Tech before taking on both Prairie View and Oral Roberts on Saturday in the round-robin format tournament.

They then will head west to Provo, Utah, to take part in the BYU Invitational, hosted by the Cougars who held the No. 1 ranking in the country for the majority of the 2018 season on their way to an appearance in the Final Four.

The tournament will take place September 5-7 at Smith Fieldhouse and kicks off with the Kats taking on Weber State on Thursday in the tournament opener before battling BYU on Friday night. SHSU will close out the weekend on Saturday, September 7 against LIU Brooklyn.

A week later they head to Jacksonville, Ala., for a two-day tournament at Jacksonville State that will pit the Kats against the Gamecocks, Stetson and Mississippi State. The Kats then close out the non-conference portion of the schedule a week later in San Marcos as part of the Creeds & Crest Classic at Texas State on Sept. 20-21 where they will take on George Washington, UTSA and Texas State.
