Texas A&M senior safety Armani Watts was named to the third-team defense at safety on the 2017 Associated Press All-America Team, which was announced on Monday.

Watts, from Forney, Texas, was recognized for a strong senior season that included 87 tackles, including 10.0 tackles for loss, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, two recovered fumbles and two blocked kicks in 12 regular season games. Watts posted double-digit tackles in four games, including a season-high 13 vs. UCLA. Perhaps his biggest play of the season was his pickoff in the endzone that clinched the Aggies’ 50-43 overtime win over Arkansas at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Also a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection, Watts will go into the 2017 Belk Bowl against Wake Forest as the only player in the Football Bowl Subdivision with a skill set that has produced four interceptions, 10 tackles for loss and two blocked kicks this season.

One of college football’s most consistent producers of big plays over the past four years, Watts will go into his final collegiate game with an amazing 328 tackles, 214 solo stops, 24.0 tackles for loss, 10 interceptions, 19 passes broken up, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries to his credit. He is tied for No. 16 nationally in total tackles (No. 6 among defensive backs) and ninth in solo tackles (No. 6 among DBs) among active FBS players.
