BRYAN, Texas — A potent cold front is working south out of northern Texas Tuesday evening. This cold front will usher in cooler temperatures for the Brazos Valley by Wednesday morning and squash the spring-like humidity. Temperatures will start out in the 50s on Wednesday.
Temperatures Wednesday will struggle in the low-60s for highs. Farther south, near coastal Texas, temperatures will be much warmer out ahead of the cold front. The cold front will stall late Wednesday before lifting north on Thanksgiving as a warm front as a storm system begins to deepen across western parts of the country. The front lifting north as a warm front will increase showers & storm activity beginning Wednesday night for the Brazos Valley continuing into Thanksgiving. Temperatures will also increase into the low-70s.
A significantly colder airmass will reside to the northwest of the Brazos Valley in the Texas Panhandle. A heavy mixture of snow & sleet is likely across that region with accumulations possible. This will cause major travel issues so just be alert if you have travel plans to the Texas Panhandle.
The aforementioned strong storm system out west will begin to track east by the end of the week, moving into the Plains. This storm system will have strong winds aloft, where the jets fly, and will pull in warm & moist air into the Brazos Valley and much of northern & eastern Texas. This will help aid in severe thunderstorm development across northern Texas on Friday and the severe threat will shift south overnight Friday into Saturday. Severe storms are possible in the Brazos Valley by Saturday. More details to come as we near late week.
