MADISON COUNTY, Texas — On Nov. 6, a man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for punching an officer in the face following a guilty plea, according to the Madison County District Attorney's Office.

Lance West, the man sentenced, was questioned by police on June 23, 2021 after they were made aware of an individual breaking the glass of a pickup truck on North Mclver Street in Madisonville. He later took off on foot, trying to get away from officials.

An officer later tried to stop West by using a taser, but it wasn't successful. Eventually, officers caught up to West, and a physical altercation broke out. West punched one officer in the face, and while being wrestled to the ground, spat on three other officers.

West was previously convicted of harassment of a public servant, according to the release from the district attorney's office. He is currently in the Madison County Jail awaiting transport to the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

"Lance West is a repeat offender in Madison County. This prison sentence is long overdue for this defendant!" said District Attorney Courtney Cain in a press release. "Criminals who assault our law enforcement officers in Madison County, can expect harsh punishment."
