Washington County authorities looking to find man in Burton car burglary shooting

BURTON, Washington County — The Washington County Sheriff's Office is looking for a suspect in a vehicle burglary incident that took place early in the morning on Thursday.

Around 3 a.m. in the 6300 block of Rehburg Road in Burton, the crime was reported to authorities. They were also notified that shots had been fired.

When sheriff's deputies arrived, the homeowner informed them that he went to investigate activity in his driveway when he found the suspect. He was shot at by the suspect in the lower half of his body and fled to a car parked on the same road after the owner also returned fire.

Officials say the suspect's car is a pickup truck, but details on what make or model were not provided.

The homeowner that was shot was given medical treatment and is currently stable with non-life threatening injuries.

A search is being done for the suspect involved in the area by deputies and other law enforcement agencies. The Washington County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division and Texas Rangers are also investigating the case.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect or suspects involved in the attempted vehicle burglary. Those with information are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 979-836-TIPS (8477).
