Rockdale ISD teacher in the running to win America's Favorite Teacher award from Reader's Digest

Chances to vote to propel Brittany Young, a Kindergarten teacher at Rockdale Elementary School, to the top ends Thursday evening.

ROCKDALE, Texas — A Central Texas teacher is in the running for a Reader's Digest magazine award.

Brittany Young, a Kindergarten teacher at Rockdale Elementary School, has made it to the most recent round of the 'America's Favorite Teacher', which is put on by Reader's Digest to celebrate one educator with some incredible prizes, including a trip to Hawaii, $25,000, and a spot in the magazine.

Young says her favorite part about being a teacher is the relationships that she builds with her students, and that her most memorable teaching experience was during her first year of teaching Pre-K, when she taught her class how important it is to support each other, even if you aren't related.

Young also says that she would give back to the Rockdale ISD library if she won the $25,000 by making a donation and bringing more bilingual books to campus. She also mentioned that she wanted to help her fellow teachers and treat the administrators that supported her and pay some of her student loan debt off.

A single vote for a teacher is free, but more votes can be purchased by donating on the website. Aside from the single free vote, more votes cost $1 each.

Voting for the competition ends at 9 p.m. central on Thursday, April 25. Click here to go to the page to vote.
