Standoff outside Limestone Medical Center ends with suspect in custody

Texas DPS said Adam Lenamond was taken into custody more than 20 hours after the standoff began.

GROESBECK, Texas — A standoff with a man near the Limestone County Medical Center came to a peaceful end Friday morning, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ryan Howard said.

Howard said Adam Lenamond surrendered to authorities after spending more than 20 hours inside his car threatening to kill himself. He has been placed in the Limestone County Jail while he waits for sentencing following a guilty verdict in the trial he was involved in at the time.

Several agencies, including the Limestone County Sheriff's Office, Groesbeck Police and DPS spent the night at the scene.

Despite the standoff, Larry Price, CEO of Limestone Medical Center, said the hospital was operating normally Friday.

"Our clinics are open, our hospital operations are open. Outpatient services if you would come through the front entrance of the hospital. All except our MRIs. if you were scheduled for an MRI, you will be rescheduled," Price said.

Lenamond was reportedly on trial Thursday, and during his lunch break, he left and traveled to the hospital parking lot, where he allegedly told his attorney that he was suicidal, authorities said.

Lenamond was convicted of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child at the trial, the verdict of which was reportedly delivered by the jury during the standoff.

Local schools were reportedly put on a soft lockdown where students were asked to hold inside with all doors locked. Once it was discovered that the incident was contained to the hospital parking lot, however, students were allowed to be released.

Groesbeck ISD announced students would return to regular class schedule Friday morning.
