Texas A&M University System wins award for student veteran services

“Texas A&M and the A&M System have a proud history of service to our nation,” said Monteigne S. Long. “We see it as our duty to help veterans succeed.”

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M University System was awarded The William Pearson Tolley Champion for Veterans in Higher Education Award by Student Veterans of America on Thursday at their national conference.

“Texas A&M and the ten regional universities in The Texas A&M University System are committed to serving veterans because it’s the right thing to do,” said Chancellor John Sharp. “But it is certainly an honor to be recognized by the top student veterans’ organization in the nation for our efforts.”

At the conference, A&M's Office of Veteran of Military Services was praised specifically for their outstanding efforts. This is despite the fact that the office was established in 2011 by the university's Board of Regents as a part of their "Project Military Friendly" mission.

“Texas A&M and the A&M System have a proud history of service to our nation,” said associate director of the Office of Veteran and Military Services, Monteigne S. Long. “We see it as our duty to help veterans succeed.”

Long also says her office serves 4,282 veterans and 7,534 dependent family members across the 11 universities that are a part of the Texas A&M University System in an effort to "enhance the collaboration and communication of Texas A&M University System campuses to facilitate veteran success."
