COPPERAS COVE, Texas — Texas Discount Automotive in Copperas Cove is doing a car giveaway for a fully-serviced 2010 Toyota Corolla, complete with a new engine.
Owner Bruce Hansen says fixing cars is a labor of love and his reason for putting in the hours to fix up, not just this Corolla, but all the other cars he's given away, is God calling for him to help others.
Last year, Hansen found himself in possession of the 2010 Corolla, but it had a shot engine, no compression cylinders and 278,000 miles on it.
"Some vehicles come in and they're far beyond their usable service. This vehicle was one of those vehicles," Hansen explained.
The Corolla was bought, along with the title, for just $200. Hansen knew going into this project that this repair would be no small task.
Over the past year, Hansen's replaced the car's engine, changed out the CV axle, installed a new A/C compressor and got it up and running.
Now, Hansen's looking to give it away to the right owner.
"We want it to go to somebody that it's going to make the most difference in their life," Hansen said.
Since posting the giveaway to his Facebook, Hansen has received tons of messages of people explaining their unfortunate circumstances and need for a new car.
Hansen has placed each of their names in a box and by May, a recipient will be selected.
Over the past seven years, Hansen has given away 10 cars to people in need!
"On your headstone, you will have the date you were born and the date you died. Your life is all in that dash. That dash is far more important than those two dates and what you do in that dash is going to affect everybody else's dash," Hansen explained.
