Brazos County Sheriff's Office: Three staff members given disciplinary actions following October 2022 incident

The disciplinary actions the three staff members are facing range from suspension without pay to demotion, according to the Brazos County Sheriff's Office.

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — Editor's Note: The attached video aired in April 2023.

In the wake of a gruesome sexual assault of a minor in the Brazos County Jail on Oct. 8, 2022 that resulted in a lawsuit and half-million dollar settlement, three employees from the Brazos County Detention Center have been handed disciplinary actions.

According to the Brazos County Sheriff's Office, the employees that have been disciplined weren't performing cell checks in accordance with standard procedure, which allowed multiple inmates to bully, physically and verbally abuse, and even sexually assault a 17-year-old inmate over the course of several hours.

Fidel Sanchez Jr. one of the individuals involved in the events that day, was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Wednesday.
