Rayven Shields laid to rest in Bryan

The three-year-old was buried more than 8 months after her body was discovered.

BRYAN, Texas — Rayven Shields, the Bryan 3-year-old found dead behind her mother's home, was laid to rest Friday, roughly 8 months after her remains were discovered.

Family and local ministers were on hand to say their final goodbye at a private service.

The sermon focused on honoring Rayven's memory with love and preaching forgiveness.

District Attorney Jarvis Parsons was in attendance.

Shields' mother, Virginia Adams is currently in the Brazos County Jail, charged in connection with her death. Adams and her boyfriend Patrick Wilson are charged with causing Injury to a Child and Tampering with Evidence by concealing a corpse, in connection with Rayven’s death. Both have plead not guilty

In the past two weeks, Shields' family received possession of the body from the Travis County Medical Examiner.

“They [held] Rayven’s body 8 months,” said Rubbie Young, Rayven’s aunt on her father’s side and her primary caregiver for most of her life. “And, sent her home, just the bones. Just bones.”

Young helped plan the funeral.

Comment: Its is not typically a KAGS policy to share images of or air video of burial services. However, in this case, the family asked that we attend and report on it, to honor Rayven Shields' memory.
