Sources: Former 5-star prospect, Texas A&M wide receiver commits to Boise State

Boise State has landed a commitment from Chris Marshall, the nation's No. 1 JUCO recruit who was rated a five-star wide receiver in the 2022 class.

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State received a commitment on Wednesday from former five-star wide receiver and the nation's No. 1 JUCO prospect Chris Marshall, sources told KTVB.

Marshall spent the past season at Kilgore College in Texas, where he turned 21 grabs into 449 yards and five touchdowns in six games. His college career began in 2022 at Texas A&M after graduating from Fort Bend Marshall High School.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound receiver showed potential from the start with the Aggies, making two starts and posting 108 yards on 11 receptions in six total appearances as a true freshman. Marshall then transferred to Ole Miss, but was reportedly dismissed from the program due to a violation of team rules.

Off-the-field issues led Marshall to the JUCO route, where he returned to the Lone Star State for the 2023 campaign at Kilgore. Boise State will likely have a detailed plan to keep the talented transfer with SEC experience at the FBS level.

Marshall is enrolled and will work out with the Broncos this semester. If the plan pans out, he could be a key piece for head coach Spencer Danielson and Boise State next season as it chases consecutive Mountain West titles.

“We are excited to have Chris join our program and add some depth to our receiver corps,” Danielson said. “He has tremendous speed, impressive hands and the ability to play at the next level. But more than that, he is a hard-working young man that wants to contribute to this team and win. I look forward to seeing that energy and effort out of him this spring.”

As a high school senior in Missouri City, Texas, Marshall totaled 466 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in seven games, while averaging 31.1 yards per catch. The five-star recruit in the 2022 class was named the District 11-5A-II Offensive MVP as both a junior and senior.

He played in the All-American Bowl before heading to Texas A&M. Marshall was ranked the No. 24 overall prospect in the 2022 class on 247Sports, and was considered the No. 3 wide receiver nationally and No. 6 prospect out of Texas.

Marshall's commitment marks the second former five-star talent to join the Broncos this offseason. USC transfer quarterback Malachi Nelson became the highest-rated prospect to commit in Boise State history earlier this month.

Other additions through the transfer portal include Tevin Griffey (DB - Florida A&M), Cam Camper (WR - Indiana), Jeremiah Earby (CB - California), Tavion Woodard (DL - Ball State) and Jarrett Reeser (K/P - San Diego State).
