Two dead, two taken to hospital following crash involving stolen car on I-35

The four occupants of the vehicle were reportedly ejected in the crash.

TEMPLE, Texas — A fatal crash in Temple involving an allegedly stolen car has left two people dead and two others hospitalized Monday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

According to DPS, a stolen Mazda 3 passenger car was reported to have been involved in a burglary in the Waco area. A McLennan County Deputy reportedly observed the suspects committing a "possible burglary" and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The suspect vehicle "failed to yield" and evaded the deputy, said DPS. The deputy reportedly crashed their patrol unit during the attempted stop but was uninjured.

The City of Troy then became the lead unit.

As the vehicle entered the City of Temple, DPS said it approached a sharp curve on the southbound service road of IH 35 at "an extremely high rate of speed".

DPS reported the Mazda left the roadway and rolled multiple times, throwing all four occupants from the vehicle.

According to DPS, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy died on the scene. The two other occupants, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl, were reportedly taken to area hospitals with unspecified injuries. DPS said it is unclear at this time who was driving the vehicle.

Next of kin have reportedly been notified.

DPS said the crash investigation is active and open. A complete copy of the crash report can be found at Texas.gov.
