Bob's Forecast: High heat index remains in effect

BRYAN, Texas — We can expect this type of weather to be a hot and mostly dry pattern to hold through the weekend.

High pressure aloft will continue to dominate the weather over a large part of the central and southern U.S. keeping the heat turned up.  In fact, this weekend we could see high temperatures close to triple digits and heat index values up to around 108.

Even if no advisories are issued, the heat will still be enough to be dangerous. Keep heat safety precautions in mind when spending time outdoors, and make sure that pets have water and shade as well. Isolated showers are still possible over the weekend, but they should be few and far between.

Rain chances pick up early next week as our weather pattern undergoes a major shift. High-pressure overhead this weekend will reposition itself over the desert southwest allowing the jet stream to dip southward over the middle of the country. That will bring down another weak cold front that will be the focus for showers and thunderstorms beginning late Monday and continuing through much of the week.

The front won't bring any cooler air, but the increase in clouds and rain should help bring high temperatures down to below average.
