Kurten fireworks show saved by Local man

The Kurten Fireworks show continues for their 21st year all through a man's passion for this family tradition.

KURTEN, Texas — Back in March, the Brazos County Volunteer Fire Department voted to discontinue hosting their 20 yearlong fireworks show due to a lack of funds and volunteer support.

“It was disappointing it was sad I didn’t understand I was kind of in shock because it had been such a staple in the community, I couldn’t understand that I was just gone,” said Shane Savage.

But Bryan local Shane Savage, and his outdoor shooting range company, Savage Outdoor and Defense, decided to take the reins and keep this community tradition going.

“Everyone when they found out it wasn’t happening were sad and disappointed as I was and when I started reaching out to people hey you’ve been here in the past you’ve done this how would you feel about us doing it again, it’s been nothing but overwhelming support,” he described.

With the fourth of July just around the corner, Savage is asking the community to raise awareness and help find local sponsors willing to keep the show afloat.

Savage explained, “It will be a community event. I will need the support of the community, I will need them to show up in droves, I will need them to buy the raffle tickets and support the food trucks and support the vendors that are out here.”

All proceeds from vendors will be donated to three charities, the Brazos County Volunteer Fire Department, the First Responders Association and the National Wild Turkey Federation.
