BRYAN, Texas — The Bryan College Station Salvation Army is looking for a $9.1-million makeover that will tear down their building from the 1950s and make space for a new center of hope.

“We did a study two years ago that this building was inefficient to help the growing population in Brazos County especially with Bryan College Station growing so much. So it was needed, a renovation, this building is from the 50s its already served many years but right now we need to create and build something that’s more sophisticated an will give us opportunity to serve more people,” said Captain Luis Villanueva.

At the moment the salvation army serves over 100 families through their food pantry, rent and utilities services and tutoring.

With this new development they’ll be able to serve more people and provide transitional housing for families in need.

Villanueva continued “Rent and utilities food pantry and clothing is still gonna be here but we’re going to expand with eight or nine transitional housing apartments for families that will be right here, and we’ll be able to work with them day by day and create goals for them to meet in the long run.”

The Salvation Army says that if it reaches seven million dollars in donations by the fall, they will be able to begin construction by December of this year.
