Humble man arrested, accused of attempting to steal welder with stolen info in Bryan

Terry Jerome Daniel, 27, allegedly attempted to rent a welder worth over $17,000 with the stolen ID and credit card of another person.

BRYAN, Texas — A man from the Houston area was arrested on Wednesday morning for attempting to rent an expensive welder from a store in Bryan, according to a report from Bryan PD.

That day, an officer went to a store in the 2700 block of North Earl Rudder Freeway in connection with an investigation involving a pattern of criminals using fraudulent or stolen info to rent expensive equipment and never return it. In the case of the man arrested--Terry Jerome Daniel, 27, of Humble--he was attempting to rent a welder worth nearly $17,300. However, he was using the ID and credit card of another person.

The officer that was investigating the case also noted that Daniel's vehicle matched the description of a truck used to allegedly commit a similar crime in September 2023, according to the police report. When questioned about what he was using the welder for, Daniel told the officer he needed it for a job, but couldn't tell the officer where the job site was.

After a search was done of Daniel, the fake driver's license and credit card he was believed to have used to try and steal the equipment was found, and he was taken into custody.

Daniel has been charged with fraud and theft of property between $2,500 and $30,000. His bonds total $70,000, according to Brazos County Jail records.
