'He didn't even get to enjoy his life here' | Temple family seeks answers in 3-year-old's death

It's been almost one year since Quintavious Trejo was discovered in a wooded area.

BELL COUNTY, Texas — It's been nearly a year since Belton Police arrested Jay Isaiah Allen for the death of 3-year-old Quintavious Trejo. Allen was the boy's stepfather.

According to the Belton Police Department, the toddler was found dead in a wooded area near Daniel Drive in Belton on Saturday Oct. 22, 2022.

All his family can cling on to is his memory and pictures.

"It's been hard, sleepless nights, can't eat," Trejo's aunt, Armeka Booker, said. "Can't really look at little kids his age because they break you down."

"The hardest part is you know, him being a 3-year-old child not even getting to enjoy his life here," Trejo's aunt, Dashana Bernard, added. "Sometimes I feel like I've been robbed. I've been robbed from his life."

This all comes after Allen allegedly admitted to investigators that he hit Trejo while changing his diaper.

"This did not result to a injury," Bernard said. "This resulted to death of a child."

It was a strike hard enough to break his ribs, according to arrest affidavits.

"Not even a mile from our home he was found," Bernard said. "That's something else that is difficult, like our children had to be here. I have to revisit this area every time I drive to my sister That's very hard to deal with. You're driving by every time you visit your family."

It has been a year full of heartbreak for the family. They are still trying to make sense of everything that happened. All they want is justice.

"It's been all over social media, the news," Bernard went on to say. "It has affected the family, the children, we just want answers."

Memories of Trejo is what his family holds on to as they await closure.

"He loved to eat," his aunts said. "And that beautiful smile. You know, he loved us, and he gave that love to all of us."

Paul Romer with the City of Belton told 6 News the case is in the hands of the Bell County District Attorney's Office. Romer says he has confidence in them and will continue to assist in the effort to bring justice for the toddler.

Trejo's family is also starting a Facebook group to support families and victims of crimes. They hope one day they can start a foundation in his memory: Quintavious' Love Foundation.
