BRYAN, Brazos County — The Brazos County Sheriff's Office has reported that a man died in custody early in the morning on Friday.

The 49-year-old man, whose identity was not revealed, requested medical assistance shortly after 2 a.m. from the jail's medical staff. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Bryan roughly 15 minutes after he had requested assistance, at 2:25 a.m.

The man was pronounced dead at 3:26 a.m. due to medical complications at the hospital, despite the staff's attempts to save his life. The Brazos County Sheriff's Office says there is no indication of "suspicious circumstances" surrounding the man's death.

Officials also say that like with all deaths that take place involving an inmate in custody, the Texas Rangers will be conducting an independent investigation. Additionally, the Texas Jail Commission has been notified, and a Custodial Death Report will be sent to the Texas Attorney General once the internal investigation by the Brazos County Sheriff's Office and independent investigation by the Texas Rangers has been conducted.
