BTU: "suspicious person" going door-to-door asking about electric meters is a scammer

While no description of the suspicious person was given, BTU says they are not associated with them, and are likely a scammer.

BRYAN, Texas — Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) has taken to social media to warn residents that a person is going door-to-door asking residents about their electric meters.

This person is not affiliated or associated with BTU, according to the company, and is likely trying to scam individuals.

BTU advises anyone that finds themselves with a person claiming to represent them and ask for info about their electric meters to not give out any personal information or allow them to access your personal property without verification that they work for BTU. The company says that all representatives will have their branding on uniforms and vehicles, and also have a proper City of Bryan/BTU identification badge.

Questions or concerns about BTU employees or business activities can be directed to 979-821-5700 or 979-822-3777 if the inquiry is taking place outside of normal operating hours.
