Shots Fired at Rockies Grill and Saloon in College Station

UPDATE: Thurs. 8/16: An "Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant," has been added to the charges against Jones.

Police say Jones threatened officers with a deadly weapon.

This is in addition to Criminal Mischief and Continuous Family Violence

UPDATE 8:04 PM: College Station Police have added Continuous Family Violence as an additional charge against Michael Jones, the gunman who held police to a 16-hour-standoff.

College Station Police confirm that Jones was in a dating relationship with another person who was inside the business. Police also say that Jones committed an act of Family Violence before officers were called.

A press release sent out by College Station Police recount the events of the standoff.

In the release, it states that Jones had been drinking and earlier in the morning, he shattered the front window of Rockies.

It also states that, as mentioned before, Jones had fired warning shots inside the building during negotiations. Police said in the release that, at one point, Jones had exited the building and pointed his firearm in the direction of law enforcement. Police said that an FBI agent, who was assisting CSPD, fired one round, but did not strike Jones.

According to the press release, Family Violence is committed when a person:

"Then and there intentionally, knowingly, and recklessly cause bodily injury to a person with whom the defendant had or had a dating relationship, as described by Section 71.0021(b) of the Texas Family Code, and the conduct by the defendant occurred during a period that was 12 months or less in duration from the last occurrence of an act of Family Violence."

UPDATE: 9:00 AM: The College Station Police Department have identified the gunman that held police to a 16-hour-standoff as Michael Jones, 38.

At 3:07 a.m., Jones surrendered to police.

With the assistance of an FBI BearCat, College Station Police were able to bring the gunman outside of the building. The BearCat made contact with the building, causing the fire sprinklers to come on, causing Jones to exit the building. There he was immediately put in handcuffs and was taken into custody.

Jones was arrested on a charge of criminal mischief. Additional charges may follow. The case is still under investigation.

Police are still trying to confirm any relationship the suspect may have had with the business. No motive has been released.

Texas Avenue is re-open to the public.

According to jail records, Jones has had seven different arrests and charges. Some of this charges include, possession of marijuana, burglary of a vehicle, and driving with a suspended license. He also has served time twice.


The College Station Police Department shut down Texas Avenue at Southwest Parkway due to an ongoing standoff at Rockies Grill and Saloon.

College Station Police said someone entered Rockies and fired a gun on Monday morning. Police shut down Park Place Plaza, the shopping center where Rockies is located.

The shooter refused to talk with law enforcement and fired warning shots. College Station Police said no one was injured and negotiation attempts will continue.

Officials are working to evacuate the shopping center and police said anyone who can see Rockies isn't safe. They asked that the public avoids the area.

College Station police said they were uncertain how many rounds were fired Monday morning.

College Station police along with a SWAT team and a Hostage Negotiations Team (HNT) are on the scene. There are no known hostages.

In a tweet posted just after 11 a.m., College Station police said no one was injured.
