Here's which Texas A&M football players have entered their name into the spring 2024 transfer portal window

Unlike the winter 2023 transfer portal window, players that enter will not be able to transfer to other schools within the SEC.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Believe it or not, spring is already here. Many football programs have already hosted their spring games, with many more--including Texas A&M--scheduled for the near future.

However, that also means the opening of the spring transfer portal window will be open for 15 days starting on April 16 for players looking for new opportunities elsewhere. Unlike in the winter portal window, players that enter are not allowed to transfer to schools within the same conference--meaning that the available talent for schools will come from outside their conference.

That's not to say that there isn't a wealth of talent available that the Aggies will try to acquire to bolster their roster with as well.

One of the positions that A&M has identified a need for stars at is wide receiver, which is a position that will not have the same caliber of talent from last year to this year. It's an understandable regression, as Ainias Smith and Evan Stewart, two of the team's highest rated talents, have declared for the NFL draft and transferred to Oregon respectively.

While Noah Thomas showed off in the spring football game, there is still a talent void that can be filled with Troy transfer Jabre Barber having undergone surgery for a foot injury. According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, he is expected to miss several months.

Barber was a player that was shaping up to be a prime target at receiver and in the punt returning game.

With that in mind, here's a list of players that have entered the transfer portal in the spring 2024 window:

Of the nine players currently in the portal, the most significant departures are Jacoby Mathews and Bryce Foster, the latter of which has been absent from team activities this spring to compete with the Track and Field team. Since April 23, Texas A&M had held onto the top spot in the national outdoor men's rankings for multiple weeks, only being bested by Florida, who slid into the top spot on April 30.

Foster's departure comes after his name was removed from the team's roster earlier in the week. The news also came at the same time that DB Bobby Taylor chose to step away from the team and football. According to Jaxson Callaway, an insider that goes by AggiesToday online, Taylor will remain at A&M to finish his education.

In the case of Smart Chibuzo, he medically retired in 2022 due to injuries and is looking to return to college football. He appeared in a single game in his redshirt freshman year in 2020 and made two appearances in games the following year.

The departures come as new head coach Mike Elko looks to trim the number of scholarship players on the team down. Even with the small handful of departures, the caliber of talent on the roster hasn't exactly eroded, as other transfers have committed to A&M to add depth and challenge the starters for playing time in the fall.

The two lists of additions and departures will be updated when the announcements become public.
