January 13th is National AMBER Alert Awareness Day

AMBER Alerts broadcast information on the abducted child and their abductor in hopes of recovering the child quicker help from the public.

BRYAN, Texas —

On January 13th, 1996,  nine year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Tx.

The AMBER Alert was created after her death, providing information about the child and the abductor, and broadcasted to the public in hopes of recovering the child with their help.

In a press release, the Amber Alert Network Brazos Valley said over 970 children across the country have been successfully found thanks to the AMBER Alert system.

Since 2003, the Amber Alert Network Brazos Valley has partnered with local law enforcement and media outlets to provide important information for distribution to the community.

Additionally, since 2010 the Brazos Valley Child Abduction Response Team has trained and worked with local law enforcement and other first responders to prepare for missing children and child abduction emergencies.
