Demontreyon Jackson, 18, of Houston, is charged with aggravated robbery, giving a false report to police, failure to identify and evading arrest. He is accused of attacking a jogger near Texas A&M University in an attempt to rob them.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The man accused of attacking a jogger in College Station allegedly tried to get away with his crime by making a 911 call and reporting a shooting in a different location.

Demontreyon Jackson, 18, of Houston, is charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest, making a false police report and failing to identify. He's accused of trying to rob a man who was out for a morning run in College Station.

The victim told Texas A&M police he passed Jackson while he was jogging on the 700 block of Texas Avenue Saturday morning just after 6 a.m. The victim said he passed Jackson and continued to run Northbound and was crossing the street at Polo Road when Jackson grabbed him from behind and knocked him to the ground.

The victim said Jackson then attempted to steal the man's wedding ring right off his finger and when the victim fought back, Jackson bit the jogger, according to court documents. A witness who was driving by, saw the attack and tried to help, according to police. Jackson then took off running towards the Northpoint Crossing apartments.

Officers from Texas A&M Police and College Station Police responded to the scene. They said they found an airsoft pistol in the street near where the attack took place, and believe Jackson dropped it during the attempted robbery. Jackson was then spotted at the Econo Lodge but was able to get away again, according to police.

Police said a report then came into dispatch, claiming a gun had just been fired in one of the apartments at Northpoint Crossing, however, officers who were searching in that area said they did not hear gunfire. Police said the call came from Jackson, who was trying to get officers to go to another area of the complex so he could make his getaway again.

A College Station police K9 officer tracked Jackson and officers found a shirt and shoes the victim said Jackson had been wearing during the attack. Moments later, the K9 officer led officers to an elevator closet where they said they found Jackson wearing just his shorts.

Jackson is currently in the Brazos County Jail on $52,000 bond.
